The Shackis about a man named Mackenize Allen Phillips, and his daughter Missy. Mack was a father of five kids, a model dad, and a wonderful husband. He loved his kids very much, and he and his wife raised them well. His wife Nan was extremly religious, but sometimes he questioned God because of his hurtful childhood. When he was younger, Mack was abused severly by his alcoholic father. Pain and and confusion had clouded his relationship with God.
When Mack takes the kids on a camping trip, Missy, his six year old daughter, is kidnapped. The child was brutally murdered, and the little girl's body was never recovered. Four years later, Mack recieves a letter in his mailbox, telling him that he should go to the shack where his baby girl was murdered. What he finds there turns his world upsidedown.
Characters: Mack: A loving father; whom the reader can connect to, because he faces normal, everyday challenges just like us. The roadblocks he deals with in the story makes it easy to relate to him, and I found myself laughing and crying along his journey. His faith is deeped over the course of the novel, as the reader's will. Missy: As a reader, you can't help but fall in love with Missy. She is a playful, fun, adorable little girl who loves her dad more then anything. Her strong relationship with God makes you step back and look at your own life, and think about all the things you need to change. The Holy Trinity: Papa, Jesus, and Sarayu guide Mack through his journey at the shack, lending their wisdom, knowledge, and love at unexpected times. From walking on water to meeting the angels, everything that happens teaches you something. Papa keeps you laughing, Jesus makes you gasp in awe, and Sarayu makes you long to experience everything Mack did.
